Thorson Dominates at Lanco in Milestone KKM Victory

PLANO, Texas (August 16, 2017) – Tanner Thorson took the lead at the start and led all 40 laps in a dominating victory on night three of the USAC National Midget Series’ “Pennsylvania Midget Week” at Lanco’s Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, Tuesday night in Newmanstown, Pennsylvania.

The victory Is the 150th by a Toyota-powered car for Keith Kunz Motorsports (KKM). It also marks the 25th career national midget feature win for Thorson, only Christopher Bell (41) has scored more as a Toyota driver.

Starting from row two, Thorson rocketed to the lead on the opening lap. The only thing that could slow Thorson down from that point on were four full course cautions as he never relinquished the lead on his way to his fifth national win of the season.

Brady Bacon would place second to make it a Toyota one-two finish, with Thorson’s KKM teammate Spencer Bayston bringing his car home in fourth place. Monday night’s winner Chad Boat was sixth, with Tanner Carrick finishing eighth.

Holly Shelton was involved in one of the scariest incidents of the night after she and another car made contact on lap 22, sending Shelton’s car into a barrel roll. Fortunately, she was able to walk away from the crash and was scored with a 15th-place finish.

With the fourth-place showing, Bayston now holds a 50-point lead over Bacon in the USAC National Championship standings. Thorson, the defending series champion, climbed up to fourth and is just 84 points behind Bayston with five races remaining this season.

The USAC National Midget Series wraps up Pennsylvania Midget Week at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown Thursday night.
