Seavey, Bayston Earn Podium Finishes at Jacksonville POWRi

PLANO, Texas (September 9, 2017) – Toyota-powered drivers captured a pair of podium finishes in POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League competition as Logan Seavey placed second with Spencer Bayston finishing third at the Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway Friday night.

Seavey shared the front row with Bayston’s Keith Kunz Motorsports Toyota teammate Holly Shelton who took the early lead, while Seavey initially fell back to fourth. Shelton would lead the early going before giving up the top spot on lap seven to eventual race winner Tyler Thomas. Seavey would work his way back into the top three before the midway point and then moved into second on lap 18.

Behind the leaders, it was another Toyota driver charging his way through the field as three-time POWRi champion Zach Daum had moved up from the 15th starting position into the top three after 20 laps. Daum would eventually pass Seavey for second and set his sights on the leader as the laps started to wind down. Unfortunately, any chance for a Daum victory would be lost when a tire went down in the closing laps.

As Daum was forced to pit, Seavey moved back up into second with Bayston claiming third place and that’s how they would finish.

Rookie Aidan RoosEvans placed fifth to make it three Toyota-powered cars in the top-five. It was a career-best finish for the 13-year-old RoosEvans, who gained one spot in the championship up to ninth. Tucker Klaasmeyer placed ninth as all three Kenny Brown Racing Toyotas earned top-10 finishes on the night.

“The feature actually went a lot better than I thought it would,” Seavey said. “I didn’t feel all that comfortable and then fell back to fourth in the beginning and then raced back up to second and raced with Tyler Thomas there for a bit. He just got the best of us and we ended up second. Obviously capitalize with running second on a night like tonight with Daum having a flat tire, we’re going to gain some points.”

Daum continues to hold down the championship lead with a 160-point advantage over Seavey, while Klassmeyer remains third with seven races remaining this season.

The POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League is back on the track on Saturday night at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Illinois.
