Wilkerson Looking for Better Raceday Luck at Summit Racing Nationals

Tim wilkersonNORWALK, Ohio (June 24, 2018) – Tim Wilkerson and his Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car have run into their fair share of bad luck this season, but the amiable driver from Springfield, Illinois, is ready to put that behind him. During abbreviated qualifying for the 12th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, Wilkerson clocked a best time of 4.032-second at 314.61 mph to earn a start from the No. 6 position.

In the second and final session, Wilkerson was 5.153, 145.67 at the finish line stripe with a dropped cylinder. Wet weather moved in after the round, and qualifying was not completed.

“We have a car that leaves the starting line nice, we just have to have a little bit of racing luck,” said Wilkerson, who will race Jack Beckman in round one. “We’ve had some bad luck lately, and we think that will turn around. We’re optimistic on how the car is running, and hopefully our mechanical problems are behind us and we can win some rounds of racing tomorrow. Our car has been cantankerous lately, but it would sure be terrific to win this race at Summit Racing’s home track. We’ve been using our 24 hour rule, and when something goes wrong, you put it behind you before you get to the next race, figure out what’s going on with your racecar, and you move on.”

“I think the new racing surface here is a little better than we thought because we’ve seen a lot of good times. I believe there is a lot of traction out there, and as long as I’m not misreading what’s happening, I think we’ll be okay tomorrow.”
