Seavey Leads Three Toyotas into Top 5 in USAC Competition at Solomon Valley

Toyota RacingBELOIT, Kan. (July 12, 2018)– Logan Seavey placed second, while Jason McDougal was fourth and Tanner Carrick finished fifth as Toyota drivers captured three of the top-five finishing positions in Wednesday’s 30-lap USAC P1 Insurance National Midget series’ “Chad McDaniel Memorial” at Solomon Valley Raceway in Beloit, Kansas, the second round of the five-race Mid-America Midget Week.

The finish was the second straight runner-up showing for Seavey after placing second at Red Dirt Raceway on Tuesday. It also marks the third consecutive podium finish for the current USAC point leader.

Starting from the outside of row one, Seavey held down the second spot for the first half of the race behind eventual winner Kevin Thomas, Jr. He fell back to third after biking into turn one on a lap 16 restart, with Keith Kunz Motorsports (KKM) Toyota teammate Ryan Robinson driving by into second.

For a moment, it appeared that the 17-year-old Robinson was headed for the lead when Thomas spun in turn four a lap later, only to come down on the track and collect Robinson. Thomas would continue with the lead, but Robinson came to a stop and after re-firing would be forced to go to the tail end of the field.

Robinson’s misfortune gave second back to Seavey and that’s where he would run the remainder of the race behind Thomas. Petry Motorsports’ McDougal made a late charge into third on the last lap only to fall inches short at the checkered flag to place fourth with Carrick finishing behind him in fifth.

“We’ve been pretty good all week, just a little bit off there,” said Seavey. “We struggled to get it to turn on the bottom. I’m just thankful to be able to run with this KKM team with all the great support from TRD and Mobil 1. Three more nights to go and, hopefully, we can move up one spot on the podium.”

Four additional Toyota drivers earned top-10 finishes on the night as Holly Shelton placed sixth, followed by Chad Boat in seventh, Kyle Craker in ninth and Tucker Klaasmeyer came home in tenth.

After a one-day break, USAC’s Mid-America Midget Week resumes Friday night at Jefferson County Speedway in Fairbury, Nebraska.
