Top Speed for Team Summit, Strong Qualifying across the Board for NHRA Midwest Nationals

Jason Line GSgreg andersonST. LOUIS (September 29, 2019) – Greg Anderson’s Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro came alive during qualifying for the 8th annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals. Four-time world champ Anderson, who had struggled in the past few events to dial in to a very narrow tuning window for his finicky Camaro, got into the groove and qualified in the No. 4 position with top speed of the meet in St. Louis.

Anderson’s best time of 6.563-second at a booming 211.10 mph in the red Team Summit Chevy set the pace on Saturday, and he remained No. 4 heading into eliminations, where he will meet KB Racing-powered Fernando Cuadra Jr.

“This is the most positive day at the track I’ve had in a while,” said Anderson, who is No. 8 in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship points.

“We definitely made a step forward – we need a little bit more, but we’re definitely going in the right direction. That run [in Q3] was a little better than I was expecting, and it’s a confidence builder. We know we can do it; we just have to prove it on Sunday. That’s been my Achilles heel, so hopefully we can keep her together tomorrow and have a chance with these guys. It’s hardball out there.”

On the other side of the ladder, Jason Line, driver of the silver Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro, entered the event as the points leader. His best time of 6.560, 209.52 was good for the No. 3 spot, and he will race Steve Graham in round one. Line picked up a total of four bonus points in his quest to protect the points lead.

“Not terrible, but not great. I feel confident going into Sunday with the silver Summit Racing Chevy,” said Line. “I’ve had a good car the last few races, and yes, we really want to be the quickest and the fastest every run, but Sunday is where it matters most. If we can keep building on the momentum we’ve had, we’ll be in good shape.”

Bo Butner, driving the Jim Butner Auto Group Chevrolet Camaro with KB Racing power under the hood, was low elapsed time of the first session. He 6.575, 209.10 in Q3 would hold as his best of qualifying and lock him into the No. 7 spot. He will race Fernando Cuadra Sr. in the opening act.

“We made four respectable runs,” said Butner. “I look at trying to get a good e.t. and qualify well and also at how I’m doing on the tree. I was right there the first few hits, and that last run I still think it was fairly good – I was .022 on the tree. That’s competitive, and we have a car fast enough to win with that. I’m very happy with that last run.

“We tried something there. Jason [Line, KB Racing teammate] asked me, ‘hey, you want to try something,’ and I said, ‘absolutely.’ It probably slowed it down a hundredth out the back, so learning that will help all of us. I like that. I really don’t ever know what he’s trying, but it doesn’t matter. I like that we all help each other. I’m ready for tomorrow. We all are.”

Eliminations for the 8th annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals will begin on Sunday at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gatewy at 11 am CT.
