ENNIS, Texas (October 19, 2019) – Greg Anderson and the red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro seem to have made amends, and time will tell as raceday dawns at the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals at Texas Motorplex. Anderson had the quickest car in the first session of Pro Stock qualifying on Saturday, and only one car was quicker than him all day, setting the tone for a Sunday packed with potential.

“I thought they were kidding me when they told me at the finish line what I’d run,” said Anderson, who clocked a 6.568-second pass at 209.10 mph that came with three bonus qualifying points. “I was more than shocked. My Summit Racing Chevy made a really nice run that felt good all the way down the racetrack. I’m very happy with that, and it tells us that we’ve uncovered something with this car that finally allows us to run.”

Anderson had a challenging start to the weekend and was No. 10 in the lineup heading into Saturday qualifying. In the last few races, his Pro Stocker has been off-the-charts sensitive, terribly temperamental, and sometimes, just plain mean. The KB Racing tuning team, led by Rob Downing and rounded out with the expertise of Dave Connolly, Nate VanWassenhove, Tim Freeman, Jason Line, and Anderson, have put their heads together again and again to try to come up with the right formula. In Dallas on Saturday, they hit it.

“I think we’ll be in good shape tomorrow. We have a chance,” said Anderson, who holds the Texas Motorplex Pro Stock track records for elapsed time (6.457-second) and speed (214.59 mph), both set in 2015. “Whether it’s just this racetrack, I don’t know yet – but the bottom line is that we’re here, and the red Summit Racing Chevy wants to run here. This is the best racecar I’ve had for a lot of races. I’m proud of the guys; they’ve been working hard and trying a lot of different things, and the car is happy here. We’ll see if we can ride that wave.”

The unfortunate news is that four-time FallNationals winner Anderson, qualified in the No. 10 position, will have to race Summit Racing teammate Line. The two have seldom faced one another in the first round of eliminations, and would always prefer a final-round meeting, but the cards have been dealt.

“We’ve got a tough draw tomorrow first round, and I have a lot of confidence in the silver Summit Racing Chevy,” said Line, who qualified in the No. 7 position with a best time of 6.556, 210.97 and has three wins at Texas Motorplex on his scorecard. “I’m happy to see Greg’s Camaro coming around, and it’s unfortunate we have to race each other, but it’ll be a good race. I’m looking forward to it.

“Overall, we’ve got some good cars in the KB Racing camp right now. It’s never easy to win a race in any class, especially this one, but that’s what makes it enjoyable. Hopefully, we’ll have a long and productive day tomorrow.”

Line is tied for second in the Pro Stock points heading into eliminations, just 48 marks outside of the lead. Anderson is No. 8, and KB Racing-powered Bo Butner is No. 4 – just 26 back from Line.

Butner and his Jim Butner Auto Group Chevrolet Camaro powered to the No. 4 qualifying position with a cool 6.535, 210.57. He will race Aussie Shane Tucker in round one.

“We had a very good car yesterday with our Jim Butner Auto Group Chevy Camaro,” said 1999 FallNationals Super Stock winner Butner, who picked up a bonus point in the opening session of Pro Stock qualifying this weekend as the third quickest. “We slowed a little bit today – probably trying some different things and getting ready for the rest of the Countdown – but I’m happy. No. 4 is a really good spot in Pro Stock. It’s better than we’ve qualified in some time.

“Shane Tucker has been running way better the last couple of races, so I know he’s going to be on time on the tree. But every round we go up there, we have to be on time. Used to be, you could get away with something first round. Not anymore. I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I think we’ll be just fine.”

Eliminations for the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals will begin on Sunday at Texas Motorplex at 11 am CT.
