Wilkerson Scores NHRA Top 10 Finish for 12th Consecutive Season

Tim wilkersonPOMONA, Calif. (November 18, 2019) – The Auto Club NHRA Finals have concluded, and Tim Wilkerson secured the 15th top 10 finish of his nitro Funny Car career. It was also the 12th consecutive time the amiable driver, tuner, and team owner has locked into the top 10.

“I’m pretty proud of that,” said Wilkerson. “We had a good year, we just stumbled in the Countdown. I’m a little bit sad, but hey, it’s a tough group out there. It’s like fighting a group of bullies, but we’ll get it next year. I’m really happy about how my car goes, and I’m happy about my guys. They’re a terrific group of kids.”

Qualified in the No. 3 spot with a very quick and capable Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Mustang, Wilkerson drew Steven Densham for round one. Densham, a second generation drag racer whose father, Gary Densham, has long been a competitor of Wilk’s, was a little quicker off the starting line and got to the finish line first after the LRS Mustang fell victim to immediate and violet tire shake as it attempted to launch.

“The track wasn’t there, but we should not have been first pair out,” admitted Wilkerson. “That was a dumb mistake on my part. The track was just not there, and I tried to crutch it the best I could, I just missed.”

The season is over, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to rest. Wilkerson and his team will be working together to make sure that their program is even stronger in 2020.

“We’re excited for next year, and I can’t say enough about Levi, Ray and Shoup and Dick Levi,” said Wilkerson. “They’ve stood behind us for all these years, and Dick has a good thought process. He understands how things work, and we really try to do a good job for him. I feel like I let him down a little bit, but we’ll work hard to make sure we’re better next year for Dick Levi, Summit Racing, Currys Transportation, and all the folks who help us.”

The 2020 season of NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series will kick off with the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, February 6-9.tim wilkersonTim Wilkerson
