(March 4, 2020) – Making his debut in the TC America TCA class at the final event of the season in 2019, Floridian Tyler Gonzalez is set for a full campaign in 2020. With the season taking the green flag this weekend at the famed Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, Gonzalez will look to take his Copeland Motorsports Prepared Hyundai Veloster N TCA car to the front of the field and start the season off with a win.
” Testing is now over, and it is finally time to get down to racing,” explained Gonzalez. “I know I am with the one of the best teams and driving one of the best cars, so I have my goals set high. Copeland Motorsports is a championship winning program and the Hyundai Veloster is a race winning car, it’s time to do some work and I can’t wait to get to work.”
With a busy start to the season, Gonzalez will compete at the Circuit of the Americas March 5-8 before returning to Florida and his home event at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg the very next weekend.
Gonzalez added, “I have only competed in Florida on a regional level so to be able to race close to home on a big stage is exciting. I know I will have a lot of family and friends in attendance, and I can’t thank them enough for their support. Also, to race alongside the NTT IndyCar Series and the complete Road to Indy program is exciting.”
“Tyler is going to be one of the main challengers in the championship battle,” added Dean Copeland, Owner of the Copeland Motorsports squad. “In 2019, we claimed the TCA Drivers Championship and Rookie of the Year honors, so we are looking to do the same in 2020. The support we have received from Hyundai and Bryan Herta Autosport is incredible, and we look forward to representing their brands on the top step of the podium throughout the season.”
Taking part in a Promoters Test Day on Thursday at COTA, official practice will take place on Friday before qualifying and race one on Saturday. The second of two wheel-to-wheel events will hit the track on Sunday. Stay tuned to the Tyler Gonzalez Racing social media pages for news, info, photos and results from the event weekend.
